Inventory
Notes and a list of software I use for various tasks in school and out of it.
Computer
I use a Mid - 2009 15-inch Mac Book Pro for my school work and pleasure. I attempt to keep my desktop clean and my filesystem organized.
Hardware
Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
MacOS 10.11.6 (El Capitan)
Software
Web Browser
I use Brave 0.58.21 for the security it provides as while as its speed. I formerly used use Opera but a bug with my older MacBook made it practically unusable.
I also use the beaker browser on occasion for experiments in the Peer-To-Peer side of the internet. These experiments are few and far between, but have been fun.
Text Editor
For distraction free, heart-bleed style writing I use the open-source program called Left made by Devine Lu Linvega. It is free to use and features auto-complete, synonyms suggestions, writing statistics, markup-based navigation and a speed-reader.
For more formal and heavy, generally school based, projects I use Google Docs to synchronize my documents from school computers and my home computer.
Music Player
For most of my music I use Spotify due to the discovery based system and my taste for finding new music.
Other times, I use iTunes synced to an iPod Nano for classical music to create a distraction free environment.
Time Tracker
I use Log by Josh Avanier. It helps me in quantifying the time I spend with a time-blocking system of time management. It also helps me stay focused as I attempt to keep my logs as truthful as possible, no distractions, no lying.
Screen Dimmer
I use F.Lux to dim my screen when the sun sets to help me avoid eye strain and protect the quality of my sleep.
VPN
Outside of online browsing, in which I use the built in Opera VPN, I use the Tunnel Bear VPN to protect other programs when I feel the need to, such on public wifi connections.
Backup Software
I use Google Backup an Sync to backup certain folders and access my school Google Drive from within my file manager.
