Time Management

This is some notes on how I manage my time as well how I would like to

My Current System

Most of my time is scheduled through my Hobonichi Techo Planner. It features heavy time-blocking with room for certain tasks like sports and reading

  1. Create 5 Columns for

    1. Due date + task bubble

    2. Class

    3. Rank of importance

    4. Task

    5. Estimated time for completion

  2. Start by writing a small dot to indicate the task

  3. Add the due date (MTWThFSS) and add an N in front if Next Week

  4. Add the Class it is in

    1. HUH - Humanities History

    2. HUL - Humanities Literature

    3. CAL - Calculus AB

    4. APP - AP Physics C

    5. GYM - Ahahah Physical Education

    6. EDD - Engineering Design and Development

    7. BND - Symphony Band

    8. HTH - Health (Online)

    9. TD - To Do (Black)

    10. EVT - Event (Black)

My (old) New System

The system I have been testing since the beginning of this year is a block scheduler. The night beforehand I plan my day. Generally starting around work around 0830 for 2 - 3 hours split into 30 or 60 minute periods all ending at 1100 for a shower, food and relaxation. After this break I will generally work from 1230 to 1430 then have a small break. Then from 1530 until about 1730 I will work, divided up into blocks again. I take a long break for dinner and to spend time with family as well. I have another block of time after dinner but I attempt to keep that free for runoff tasks and passion projects. I decided to do this to make more use of the time I have on holiday break before go back to school. I also found myself performing different tasks better at different times of the day. I perform better organizational tasks in the morning, creative in the afternoon and my peak (everything) comes in the evening.

I have found this system to be working incredibly well for me to execute a variety of tasks throughout my day with structured breaks within my day. I attempt to create my blocks around the obligations I already have in the world. Wearing an analog watch also helps me in this pursuit as it stops me from checking my smartphone and waving my train of concentration goodbye.

I organize my blocks by keeping a weekly planner (also hobonichi) and inserting commitments where they are so I have a good look at my week. I then create and structure my blocks around these commitments.
